Inaugural Legends Day

The inaugural Legends Day gathering was held on August 26, 2001. The winner of the featured Invitational Trot was CR Aviator driven by Mike LaChance for owner Janine Allen and trained by Keith Klages.

John Campbell, the richest and arguably one of the greatest harness racing sulky sitters of all-time, had no problem driving away from a number of fellow Hall-of-Famers in this edition of the Legends Day Trot. The native of Ailsa Craig, ON teamed up with the Andy Hardy-trained New Dice Please to capture the $20,000 tilt by three lengths in a time of 1:59.1.

2011 Legends Day

Driver John Campbell, who won the 2007 edition with Runway and the 2009 event with New Dice Please, guided Lexis D J to a six length score in this year’s race, which was packed full of some of the sport’s greatest drivers including Doug Brown, Jim Doherty, Bud Fritz, Clint Galbraith, Wally Hennessy, Bill O’Donnell, Ray Remmen and Ron Waples.

2013 Legends Day

Driver Ray Remmen and Susie Kerwood trainee The Northern Dude captured the $15,000 Legends Day Invitational Trot in true legendary fashion with a gate-to-wire effort in a new track record of 1:59. This was Remmen's first Legends Day win. Ron Waples and Amigo Loco were not far behind for second and Cimeronken, driven by Bill O’Donnell, rounded out the triactor.

2015 Legends Day

The winner of the $15,000 Legends Day Trot was Dave Wall with Brandon Cs. The longest shot on the board at 9-1, Wall steered the six-year-old gelding to his 22nd career win. Leaving from post four, the duo took control of the field by the half-mile marker and cruised home to a two-length win in a new all-age trotting track record of 1:57.3.

2017 Legends Day

All eyes were on John Campbell on Sunday (July 30) at Clinton Raceway, as ‘Mr. Harness Racing’ was in the sulky for his final career drive, which came in the 2017 Legends Day Trot. Driver Steve Condren and the Al Fair-trained Lady Caterina upset the apple cart during the 2017 Legends Day Trot. The duo went straight to the top at odds of 25-1 and recorded a gate-to-wire win in 1:58.1, which returned a $53.50 win mutuel.

2019 Legends Day

A large crowd gathered along the rail for the Legends Day Trot and was treated to a thrilling finish by Hall of Fame drivers David Miller, Doug Brown, Trevor Ritchie, Steve Condren, Wally Hennessey, Dave Wall and Ron Waples. Miller and Dominum Deo would emerge the winners, getting a neck in front of Brown and Azucar with a 1:59.3 effort. Ritchie and Lets Leavem were just one-half length back in third.

2022 Legends Day

Hall of Fame driver Doug Brown swept the featured trots with All Out Henry and Power And Grace to close out another successful edition of Legends Day on Sunday afternoon (June 12) at Clinton Raceway.

The biennial event, held in support of the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation, returned to Clinton Raceway after being postponed in 2021 due the COVID-19 pandemic. The event raised over $51,000 for the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation.
